CAM MARINO 2023 FINAL POSITIONAL RANKINGS

QB

  1. ALABAMA QB BRYCE YOUNG
    • Young is creative with a playmaking mentality. He’s the best player in the draft.
  2. FLORIDA QB ANTHONY RICHARDSON
    • Richardson has the upside to be one of the best players in the entire class. With elite physical traits, Richardson has Josh Allen potential. He’s a threat both in the air and on the ground, but I expect a team with an existing starting quarterback to select Richardson. “He’s one of those guys that defensive coordinators fear because he can do really whatever he wants to you,” an analyst told me.
  3. OHIO STATE QB CJ STROUD
    • Stroud has received some heat for his poor S2 cognition test results, but he remains one of the more pro ready quarterbacks in the class. His presence and command on the field is noticeable on film and in the stat sheet — noting that he has a 85 to 12 touchdown/interception ratio. Stroud has the ability to be a playmaking starter from day one, but I don’t believe his upside is as high as Anthony Richardson’s.
  4. TENNESSEE QB HENDON HOOKER
    • Hooker was blessed with an impressive receiving core, but that’s not a slight to his ability to play. In rhythm, Hooker is one of the best in the class — but right now, you’re banking on his physical traits.
  5. HOUSTON QB CLAYTON TUNE
    • Tune is a quick processor and is a generally smart play-maker. He will have the ability to develop his game next level and would best succeed in a spread style offense where he can manage from the shotgun.

RB

  1. TEXAS RB BIJAN ROBINSON
    • Robinson is athletically gifted with some of the quickest feet and sharpest cuts the draft has ever seen. Since Saquon Barkley, Bijan Robinson is the closest thing to a sure thing at the position.
  2. ALABAMA RB JAHMYR GIBBS
    • Gibbs is a threat both on the ground and in the air. But, he’s no regular threat. Jahmyr Gibbs is shot out of a cannon. With his explosion, good luck tackling him.
  3. OLE MISS RB ZACH EVANS
    • Folks will consider this high for Zach Evans. He’s elusive, carries a strong contact balance and had generally impressive tape. I’m a big fan of Zach Evans’ ability to succeed next level.
  4. UCLA RB ZACH CHARBONNET
    • Charbonnet is a compact, well-built running back. He has the ability to carve out a large role for himself in the NFL due to his innate ability to do most things well.
  5. UAB RB DEWAYNE MCBRIDE
    • Anyone who doesn’t have McBride in their top-5 is still sleeping. McBride is walking production and was a cornerstone for the Blazers offense.

WR

  1. OHIO STATE WR JAXON SMITH-NJIGBA
    • JSN is elusive, crisp in his routes, dominant at the catch point and comes with an elite ability to separate. He is the clear WR1 in this class, both physically and analytically.
  2. TCU WR QUENTIN JOHNSTON
    • Johnston has shades of Julio Jones in his game, but he needs to work on his drops. If he puts his game together, he becomes a major threat for defenses.
  3. BOSTON COLLEGE WR ZAY FLOWERS
    • Zay Flowers’ play reminds me of Antonio Brown. I think in most classes, Zay would be my WR1. I love his ability to separate.
  4. OKALHOMA WR MARVIN MIMS
    • Mims has been slept on this entire process and I still don’t know why. He’s one of the best receivers in the nation where he excels at getting open.
  5. USC WR JORDAN ADDISON
    • Addison is a good wide receiver but I don’t believe he excels at anything. I think he could be in the league for a long time due to his reliability and consistency.

TE

  1. UGA TE DARNELL WASHINGTON
    • Washington offers a dangerous blend of size and speed. I struggle to see how NFL defenses will plan against another Gronk-like specimen.
  2. UTAH TE DALTON KINCAID
    • Kincaid is well rounded but will be drafted for his receiving ability. He is a threat in offenses that spread their tight ends out wide.
  3. NOTRE DAME TE MICHAEL MAYER
    • Mayer is a bit of an outdated tight end, but he’s as clean of a prospect as you can get.
  4. OREGON STATE TE LUKE MUSGRAVE
    • Musgrave went down early in the season with an injury but was an elite force before. He’s fast and physical.
  5. IOWA TE SAM LAPORTA
    • LaPorta is very well rounded and does what you need him to do. As a ball carrier, he’s elusive and loves when the ball is in his hands.

IOL

  1. NORTHWESTERN OG PETER SKORONSKI
    • Skoronski projects best next level as a guard. He’s got a strong anchor but his limitations in size will prevent him from succeeding long term at left tackle.
  2. FLORIDA OG O’CYRUS TORRENCE
    • Torrence is one of the most consistent players in the draft and that’ll get him drafted in the top-50. He’s a people-mover and a brick wall.
  3. OKLAHOMA OG/OT ANTON HARRISON
    • I liked Harrison’s tape. I thought he showed a nice blend of speed and power. I think he projects best as a guard due to his size limitations.
  4. NORTH DAKOTA STATE OG CODY MAUCH
    • Mauch has strong athletic traits and has experience in a pro-style offense where he was asked to climb to the second level frequently.
  5. TCU OG STEVE AVILA
    • Avila has versatility to play both guard and center and served as the anchor for the firepower offense in TCU.

OT

  1. TENNESSEE OT DARNELL WRIGHT
    • Darnell Wright is my favorite tackle in the class. A four-year starter, Wright is dominant at the contact point. His tape was very impressive.
  2. OHIO STATE OT PARIS JOHNSON JR
    • PJJ is a towering outside tackle who’s a game-wrecker for opposing pass rushers. Physically, he gives you everything you want.
  3. GEORGIA OT BRODERICK JONES
    • Broderick Jones is a stellar fit in a gap scheme where you can bounce through and around him. He’s very stout at the point of attack.
  4. OHIO STATE OT DAWAND JONES
    • Dawand Jones is all of 6 foot 8, 374 pounds. In pass protection, Jones has an impressive ability to move.
  5. SYRACUSE OT MATTHEW BERGERON
    • Bergeron is one of the best tackles in pass protection in the class. That’s going to get him drafted — as the league heavily incorporates spread style pass plays.

DE/OLB

  1. ALABAMA OLB WILL ANDERSON
    • Anderson is a force off the edge and was once labeled as “generational.” He’s clean and efficient. Best pass rusher in the class.
  2. TEXAS TECH OLB TYREE WILSON
    • Wilson is coming off an injury, but when healthy, he’s a game-wrecker. He reminds me of Chandler Jones.
  3. GEORGIA OLB NOLAN SMITH
    • Nolan Smith has the ability to rush the passer or drop into coverage. I think his tape showed that he could skinny-up to fit through just about any gap where he frequently lived in the backfield. High-upside player.
  4. IOWA DE LUKAS VAN NESS
    • Lukas Van Ness is all about versatility. He can play any spot on the line. His game has shades of Trey Hendrickson.
  5. LSU OLB BJ OJULARI
    • BJ Ojulari is a major sleeper. I loved his tape and I think he has the potential to be better than a lot of the guys in this class. His first step is explosive and he consistently draws holds.

IDL

  1. GEORGIA 3T JALEN CARTER
    • Carter is one of the best players in the draft. He’s violent at the point of attack and lives in the backfield.
  2. PITTSBURGH 3T CALIJAH KANCEY
    • Kancey is an undersized three technique with an array of pass rushing moves. He will draw Aaron Donald comps schematically, but those are off base.
  3. IOWA 5T/3T LUKAS VAN NESS
    • Van Ness can play interior defensive line efficiently. I’d be comfortable playing him at three technique.
  4. NORTHWESTERN 5T/3T ADETOMIWA ADEBAWORE
    • Adebawore is a bit of a tweener but he’s an uber-efficient pass rusher. He’s one of the most explosive and athletic players in the class.
  5. GEORGIA TECH 5T/3T KEION WHITE
    • White is a dominant dude. I would be really excited about Keion White if he was on my team due to his ability to play every technique on the line.

ILB

  1. IOWA MLB JACK CAMPBELL
    • Campbell is a true middle linebacker and I think he could be a star in the NFL. He’s got sideline to sideline speed and range. It all comes with a high football IQ.
  2. ARKANSAS MLB DREW SANDERS
    • Drew Sanders, a former edge rusher, is a threat as an off ball linebacker. His contact strength is impressive.
  3. TEXAS WLB DEMARVION OVERSHOWN
    • Overshown is rangy and tough. He reminds me of Jaguarss linebacker Foye Oluokun. He projects best next level as a weakside linebacker.
  4. CLEMSON WLB TRENTON SIMPSON
    • Simpson brings your defense an extra level of juice and fluidity. Clemson’s defense is multi-faceted and Simpson played just about it all.
  5. CINCINNATI MLB IVAN PACE JR
    • Pace is your prototype middle linebacker, despite being undersized. His film depicts his love for football. He’s always where the ball is.

CB

  1. OREGON CB CHRISTIAN GONZALEZ
    • Gonzalez is a long corner with lightning feet. His change of direction ability is incredibly impressive.
  2. ILLINOIS CB DEVON WITHERSPOON
    • Witherspoon brings a different level of toughness to a defense. An outside corner, Devon Witherspoon reminds me of Jaire Alexander in his physicality.
  3. PENN STATE CB JOEY PORTER
    • Porter offers a pleasant blend of size and speed. I’m comfortable with him in a press scheme because of how he moves.
  4. MARYLAND CB DEONTE BANKS
    • Tae Banks was a shadow corner in college. He had an unbelievable combine which proved his athletic prowess. A guy worth taking a chance on.
  5. TCU CB TRE HODGES-TOMLINSON
    • THT is very undersized, standing at 5’8″, but I truly don’t believe that affects his game. At the catch point, Hodges-Tomlinson is uber-competitive.

S

  1. ALABAMA CB/S BRIAN BRANCH
    • Branch is the best safety in thiss class. He’s rangy, smart, agile and has sideline to sideline abilities.
  2. ILLINOIS FS SYDNEY BROWN
    • One half of Illinois’ safety core, Brown is a four-year starter. I’m not sure I’d call him a centerfielder because he spent time in the box, but he’s an effective safety in both roles.
  3. PENN STATE SS JI’AYIR BROWN
    • Ji’Ayir Brown is a fun player and a guy I’m higher on than most. He’s all about football and production. That’s a winning formula.
  4. TEXAS A&M CB/S ANTONIO JOHNSON
    • Johnson has the ability to play both safety spots and corner. Versatility is the name of the game for Antonio Johnson.
  5. ILLINOIS SS QUAN MARTIN
    • Quan Martin is the other half of Illinois’ threatening secondary. He’s fast and physical. Illinois’ defense asks their safeties to move around a lot. Martin is pro-ready.
